I ran out of taco seasoning during Fiesta Week. We were eating so many tacos and fajitas, I underestimated how much I needed. I contemplated having Jeff eat just plain ground turkey (the boy can eat anything! Ask me about the time he ate a whole sandwich without knowing there was a piece of wax paper inside. Or the time he swallowed saran wrap) but I’m trying to be a better cook these days since Jeff out does me in the kitchen. Maybe everyone else out there knows how to make their own taco seasoning but I usually buy those 99 cent El Paseo packets. I googled and found this recipe. Surprisingly, I had all the herbs and seasonings already in our spice cabinet! Now that I know how easy it is to make my own, I will never buy those little seasoning packets full of sulfates and preservatives again!
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
Mix all together in a bowl and store in an airtight container. Use 3 tablespoon per one pound of meat.
By the way, I totally think its true that boys can eat ANYTHING. One time in 6th grade, my brother swallowed his own retainer! And then I burst into tears because I thought he was going to die. Then a few days later my mom had to “fish” it out….. I’ll leave it at that.
