I really wanted a loose theme for our wedding because it’s kinda fun and a theme helps tie elements together. After thinking about it for months, I finally decided to have a bicycle-themed wedding!! Biking is one of the special hobbies that Jeff and I love doing together. Even though we mesh on so many levels, we actually have vastly different hobbies. I’m a girly girl and Jeff loves playing sports. There are few things that we actually enjoy doing together and bicycling is one of them. We love taking long bike rides, exploring our neighborhood and then having a picnic dinner by the river. I thought bicycles fit perfectly into my vision for our wedding, too; they are fun, whimsical, vibrant and summery! Exactly what I hoped our wedding to be!
I designed a logo for us that pictured both our bikes and our names below them. I always thought that our bikes represented us very well. Jeff’s blue mountain bike is just like him: rugged, sporty and masculine. My pink beach cruiser with whicker basket and bell is just like me: girly, beachy and southern Californian. I loved our logo and used it everywhere!
We incorporated the bicycle theme in a myriad of ways at our wedding: on our invitations, our wedding programs and trivia cards. We used a bicycle basket to hold our cards and found some miniature bicycles to use as centerpieces. A cherry red tandem bike greeted our guests at the entrance. I’ll write more about these details later but here is a summary of our bicycle details:

The most memorable thing we did was that we rode into our reception on a tandem bike! It was my idea and Jeff thought I was crazy when I suggested it. But once I set my heart on something, I am determined to do it! We had an outdoor reception so it worked out well! We rented a bright cherry red tandem bike and I attached a “just married” sign on the back and flowers onto the handlebars! Our bridal party were great sports and performed a fabulous dance to the Black Eyed Pea’s “I Got a Feeling”, choreographed by bridesmaid M, during the grand entrance. Jeff and I entered wobbly in the middle of the song, hopped off the bike, and finished off the dance with them. That might have been our favorite moment of the wedding! Perhaps foolishly, we didn’t practice with my dress and 4″ high heels so it was a huge risk, it could’ve been a huge flop (literally!), but it was so fun and memorable! It was a great way to start off a party, too!
I think it was fitting to enter our reception as newlyweds on a tandem! Signaling the beginning of our new lives together!

I love all the bicycle wedding decor out right now. Admittedly, I’m a little bummed my fiancé and I don’t spend any time biking because I would love to go with a bike theme!
