Happy New Year!!!
We had a great weekend, I hope you did, too! On New Year’s Eve, Jeff’s alma mater U of Illinois happened to be playing in the Kraft Hunger Bowl against UCLA (my home town!) at AT&T park. I donned my orange jersey (Jeff promised he would reciprocate and wear Duke gear when March Madness comes around), we walked across the street to the ballpark and cheered on the Fighting Illini as they beat the Bruins. Despite watching all five seasons of Friday Night Lights, I really have no idea what’s happening on the field. I just cheer whenever everyone else is cheering!
We hosted an impromptu party and rang in the new year Saturday night with a bunch of new and old friends. It was the first time we hosted any sort of gathering at our new apartment since we landed in this city. Because we had no decor, I hurriedly cut out the sign above 10 minutes before guests arrived! (not sure how it ended up being in UCLA colors)
Jeff and I think that 2012 will be sort of a wild card year for us, we have no idea what to expect. The past couple years were huge years of important milestones: we got married in 2010 and moved across the country in 2011. 2012 could either be rather ordinary or super exciting. We can’t wait to see what God has in store for us! I have a bunch of goals for this upcoming year, here are a few (I’m boldly publicly proclaiming them so that you can all hold me accountable!):
- Get involved with a church. One of the reasons San Francisco hasn’t quite felt like home yet is because we aren’t plugged into a church yet. This is partly also because we have been traveling so much and aren’t around for many Sundays. We crave being a part of a Christian community and we can’t wait to actively serve in a ministry.
- Find a job! I’ve been so lucky to be able to take the last half year off from working but living in one of the most expensive cities in the world comes with lots of financial pressures. The cost of living in the Bay Area is astronomical! If anyone knows of any UX/Visual Designer positions or creative jobs out there, let me know! I hope I can find something that I am passionate about!
- Eat healthier I was going to add “and exercise more” but who am I kidding?!
- Learn how to use my serger. I begged and begged Jeff for a serger machine months ago telling him that it would be so useful and I would use it all the time. I absolutely had to have it!! When it arrived, I took one look at the complicated threading with its four spools and four needles, glanced at the instruction booklet and corresponding DVD and promptly shoved it into the corner of the bedroom.
I’m looking forward to this new year!! I hope the new year will be filled with lots of love, happiness and dreams fulfilled for you all!
