I’m finally getting around to decorating our apartment! We’ve been traveling so much, I’m lucky if I can keep up with the laundry and get things unpacked before our next trip. Our new apartment in San Francisco could use a lot of styling! While our previous home in Boston was chock full of charm like crown molding and original hardwood floors, our new place has plain white walls and rather uninspiring beige carpet. It’s basically a blank slate to do whatever I want! I haven’t done much in our bedroom because, really, there is not much room to do anything. It’s a typical small city apartment, just 10×10 feet so there’s just enough room to walk around either side of the bed. I did hang up this “You & Me” sign about our bed. I got the idea from one of my favorite photography blogs, Under The Sycamore. The gold letters are from Hobby Lobby which I bought when we were visiting Illinois last July. (I went so crazy at Hobby Lobby and bought so much random craft stuff, I had to go to the post office the next day and mail all my purchases home because there was not enough room in my suitcase!) The letters were half off that day and the small letters were $3 and the large “&” was $6.
I smile whenever I see the sign because “You & Me” is the perfect phrase for our room. (It’s also the title of our favorite Lifehouse song!) Jeff and I often have this “It’s you and me against the world!” attitude when challenges are thrown our way. We are each other’s biggest cheerleaders and we know we can get through anything as a couple. It seemed fitting to start off the new year with this phrase on our wall to remind us that whatever 2012 brings us, we will get through it together as a team.
Since we are renting, I’m hesitant to put any big holes on our walls so I just hung these up with regular pushpins. Hopefully, these will withstand earthquakes!
The letters are a little crooked, which drives me BATTY everyday, but I don’t want to put in more holes on the wall than necessary!
Lest you think our place is nicely organized, I thought I’d also give you guys a little peek into our master bedroom and show you how I manage to
shove store a bunch of our junk into a small space. The biggest challenge of living in a small city apartment is figuring out how to store everything, especially all my craft stuff. You have to be really creative! It may all look neat and tidy at first glance, but in reality, this is what’s really behind it all:
It’s amazing how much junk I can cram in there! Look at all my craft machines piled in the corner niche!
At the very bottom of the pile is my serger machine, which I vow to learn to use this year!!
