Fabric Flower Pin/ Gift Decor

After sewing Jeff’s sister’s bridal shower present (see customized dinosaur and robot blanket tutorial here), I had some  leftover scraps of flannel fabric in their wedding colors that I thought I should use up somehow.  I decided to decorate their wedding present with some fabric flowers that I pieced together by hand which she could detach and use again later.  Might as well make it multi-functional!

I sort of made up the flowers as I went along.  They aren’t perfect, but I kind of like the handmade look. I scavenged through my bead collection from my jewelry-making days and added these beads to the flowers for embellishment:

I found an old pin and hot glued it to the back:

Voila!!  I attached the pin to the ribbon and it made a quick, easy and versatile piece of decor:

Cost of this project? $0! Yes!

I like being able to make the fabric flowers re-usable so that Jeff’s sister can easily take the pin off and use it again later. If I’m going to spend so much time making something, its nice to know that it can be recycled!

I made something similar for my friend S’s bridal shower present last year (click on photo to see full post):
