It’s Halloween!! For most people, this day means fun costumes, trick-or-treating, candy and ghosts. For me, it means that it’s my baby pumpkin’s birthday!
My sweet Zoey Grace,
It’s only been 365 days since you entered my world but you have managed to turn it upside down (in a good way). In fact, I hardly remember life before you were in it, that’s how special and important you are to me. As your name indicates, your life was a gift to us from God, a constant reminder of His grace and goodness to us. Each passing day, and on your day of birth especially, I am thankful to our Father and praise Him for you.
Your daddy and I delight at seeing your personality shine more and more each day. Your father and I always marvel at how special you are, how we could not have predicted what kind of child God would grant us, because you truly are a unique child. You are the life of a party and even though you stand merely 28.5″ inches tall, you make your presence known wherever you go. You command the room and revel at being the center of attention. You are an extrovert- friendly, outgoing and loud. You love to wave, blow kisses and say “hi” to everyone, even complete strangers, around us. This, you take after your father, who easily makes friends wherever he goes. From me, you (unfortunately) inherited my spunk. You are quite “spirited”, determined and passionate, bordering mischievous. Quiet and easy going, you are not. While you keep us on our toes and we already fear your teenage years, you also keep us laughing with your cute antics and silly sense of humor. Mommy believes that her biggest challenge parenting you will be channeling all your energy and passion towards good.
Because of your friendliness, you are loved by many, as evident by the 100+ people (!!!) coming to your birthday party this weekend. This, we are especially thankful for as we are frequently humbled parenting you and realize it truly takes a village to raise you to become the kind of woman we want you to be. You especially have a sweet, special relationship with your maternal grandparents, your Ah-ma and Ah-gong, who love you more than life. This past year, you were also lucky to gain a lifelong best friend, your cousin Rylie, born just half a year after you. You have so many “aunties” and “uncles” who love you and rejoice with us on this day. You are a blessing and joy to our family and friends and have brought us all closer together just by your birth.
This first year of your life was full of new milestones- first smiles, first laugh, first tooth, first steps – and every one of your achievements was a personal triumph for me, too. Mommy promises to continue being your biggest cheerleader as we enter your second year of life and look forward to many more memories made. Your father and my daily prayer for you this coming year is that you continue to grow in wisdom, strength, beauty, faith, love and kindness every passing day, growing into a woman after God’s own heart. We pray that you will come to know and love Jesus in a deep personal way at a young age. He loves you more than all of us combined.
Happy first birthday! I love you so much, my sweet baby girl.
PS. And to my dear husband Jeff- we survived!! Somehow by the grace of God, we made it through undeniably the hardest year of our lives! There is no one else I would rather share this adventure of parenthood with. I love you, too!
