Strawberry Heart Icecubes

in holidays, recipes, tutorial, valentines day

This isn’t a novel or brilliant idea, but I thought I’d share another simple way that I am trying to make things fun during this Valentine’s week.  Oh yes, Valentine’s day is a weeklong celebration in our household.  Jeff’s been bringing home some surprise gifts for me the last few days and I’m trying to introduce this holiday to Zoey in creative ways.   So far, we’ve checked out a few books on Valentine’s Day at the library, been enjoying a few special treats, decorated our home and sent out some Valentine cards to some of her sweet friends.   Jeff’s also going to take his  baby girl out on a special daddy-daughter date later this week, too.  To add to the festivities, I’ve been making these strawberry heart icecubes to spruce up our drinks.

I got these heart-shaped silicone icecube trays at Target a couple years ago:

I pureed some frozen strawberries with my magic bullet and spooned them into the tray and froze:

Waited a couple hours and popped them right out:
I plopped them in Zoey’s cup of milk to make it a special cup of strawberry milk:

And turned Jeff’s glass of lemonade into strawberry lemonade:heart_icecube7

So simple, so easy! So cute!

If you’re craving a warm drink this time of year, you can cut heart shapes out of marshmallows with a cookie cutter and drop them into some red velvet hot chocolate. Click on this link to see a tutorial I posted a couple years ago on how to do this!

Hope you are enjoying Valentine’s week, too!

Oh my goodness I absolutely love this! It’s so genius to just use strawberry puree instead of food coloring (bleh!) Thank you! Now here’s to hoping my weenie blender can handle that…

(Hoping you see this comment!)
